The history of the Baraboshovo shopping center
The Barabashovo market (named “barabashka” among Kharkiv residents) was erected on a non-built-up area in 95 of the last century to the west of the 18th station of the Kharkov metro named after “Academician Barabashov”, from where its name came from. Previously, a spontaneous small food market was located on this territory, where residents from the nearest districts of the city were purchased. Initially, the market was small in size, over time it gradually expanded due to the nearest vacant areas, recently the increase in the territory of the market is due to the demolition of private buildings.
By 2008, most of the shopping center Baraboshovo acquired a modern look. On the site of the former container sites, shops with two floors were built, the passages between which are hidden by canopies. Several car parks were built for greater convenience of customers, and a parking lot appeared above the Luzhniki outlets. By this time, there had been a significant expansion of the retail hypermarket "Novy Vek", and another supermarket for retail customers was built at the place of disembarkation of people from public transport.
At the moment, marketplaces near bus stops and drop-off points for buyers from other public transport are aimed at retailing products. While wholesale outlets are located on large marketplaces near the private car parking area and in the very center of the market. Most public transport stops are located in the center of the market, and parking lots are located around the perimeter of the shopping center.
In 2008, the market area was about 70 hectares, at that time, ranking second in all of Eastern Europe. The Baraboshovo shopping center received the title of the largest market in 2009 after the closure of the Moscow Cherkizovsky market.
